Inlet Guide Vane Damper (IGVD) also known as Vortex Dampers, are designed to control centrifugal fans in ventilation systems. Mounted on the inlet side of the fan to increase its efficiency and used to reduce pressure while maintaining fan speed.
Mole HVAC Equipment Ltd offers various damper control options: manual, mechanical, electrical & pneumatic control.

Inlet Guide Vane Damper (IGVD) also known as Vortex Dampers, are designed to control centrifugal fans in ventilation systems. Mounted on the fan inlet side to increase its efficiency and used to reduce pressure while maintaining fan speed.
Due to the shape and construction of the blades, the air taken in by the fan is initially 'swirled’ and is aimed at changing the fan’s operating characteristics, causing a pressure drop, while maintaining constant rotation of the impeller.
Mole HVAC Equipment Ltd offers circular damper casing suitable for direct flange connection to circular ductwork.
Blades
Multi blade configuration with opposed or parallel blade operation available. Blades shape provide a 'pre-whirl’ to the air, it sort of get the air spinning before it hits the fan.
Accessories
Lockable hand quadrant as standard. Other control options are available including pneumatic or electric actuators.
Application
Typical application for our dampers:
Oil and GAS
Pharmaceutical
Wind Farm and Renewable Energy
Nuclear
Industrial
Material
Generally 2.0 or 3.0mm thick fully welded 316L St/St construction. Other materials and thicknesses are available to suit client requirements.
Available materials include:
– Stainless steel (304, 316 grade)
– Carbon steel (electro galvanised, pre-galvanised, painted or hot dipped galvanised (HDG) for thicker materials)
– Aluminum
Flanges
Flanges are formed from the parent material to provide a flange width of 40, 50 or 75 80?mm. The flanges are normally drilled to the pitches and diameters defined in BS EN ISO15138:2018 or to the Client specification. At the customer’s request we may also deliver dampers with undrilled/ blank flanges.
Lifting
Where necessary or required lifting points are incorporated within the damper casing.
Sizes
Standard damper sizes are from Ø250 mm to Ø2200mm with a depth of 300mm. Larger damper sizes can be provided by Mole HVAC Equipment Ltd, as individual project. Smaller depths can be provided if required but the damper blades may extend beyond the casing.
Blades
3mm thk single blades spot welded and bolted to the damper shafts. Where necessary longer blades are additionally fitted with stiffening channels for increased rigidity.
Shafts
Shafts are Ø14 or 16 mm dia. and removable to allow bearing replacement.
Linkage
5 thk linkage positioned around the damper circuit to allow control of each blade. Each blade is connected to the tendon by means of a ball joint.
Bearings
For small damper sizes – low friction coated stainless steel bushes. In the case of larger dampers and the Heavy Duty version – ball bearings.
Controls
Manual handle travel within a quadrant lockable in position allowing damper adjustment between fully open and closed positions.
Other control options, including pneumatic or electric actuator are also available.
Indication
316L Stainless steel open/closed indicators fixed to handle quadrant. Dampers can also be provided with high visibility indication beacons and, where required, with remote position indication (On/Off or continuous/analog)
Nameplate
316L stainless steel nameplate containing agreed information is attached to the damper casing or linkage enclosure.
Hazardous Area
Our dampers are also available in hazardous area execution (ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 2).
