Backdraught Dampers (BDD) also known as Non Return Dampers – (NRD) are designed to prevent backflow of air through the ventilation system. These dampers are commonly used within air handling units or on fan skids.
Mole HVAC Equipment Ltd offers various damper types and control options. These include rectangular or circular damper casings and manual or actuated control options.

Mole HVAC Equipment Ltd offers various damper configurations:
Rectangular
Suitable for direct flange connection to rectangular ductwork or provided with circular insertion spigots to suit connection to circular ductwork.
Circular
Suitable for direct flange connection to circular ductwork.
Blades
Rectangular BDDs are provided in single or multi blade configuration with opposed or parallel blade operation available.
Circular BDDs are provided as single blade units only.
Application
Typical application for our dampers:
Oil and GAS
Pharmaceutical
Wind Farm and Renewable Energy
Nuclear
Industrial
Material
Generally 2.0 or 3.0mm thick fully welded 316L St/St construction. Other materials and thicknesses are available to suit client requirements.
Available materials include:
– Stainless steel (304, 316 grade)
– Carbon steel (electro galvanised, pre-galvanised, painted or hot dipped galvanised (HDG) for thicker materials)
– Aluminum
Flanges
Flanges are formed from the parent material to provide a flange width of 40, 50 or 75 80?mm. The flanges are normally drilled to the pitches and diameters defined in BS EN ISO15138:2018 or to the Client specification. At the customer’s request we may also deliver dampers with undrilled/ blank flanges.
Lifting
Where necessary or required lifting points are incorporated within the damper casing.
Sizes
Standard damper sizes are between 100x100mm and 2000x2000mm with a depth of 200mm. Larger damper sizes can be provided by combining multiple dampers. Smaller depths can be provided if required but the damper blades may extend beyond the casing.
Blades
2 x 1.0mm double skin, Two parts of blade spot welded and bolted to the damper shafts. Longer blades are additionally fitted with stiffening
channels for increased rigidity.
Shafts
Shafts are 14mm dia. and removable to allow bearing replacement. St/ steel linkage is located out with the airstream and is protected
by removable cover.
Bearings
Low friction coated stainless steel bushes.
Seals
Stainless steel top and bottom blade stops fitted with replaceable EPDM/PVC sealing strips for reducing damper leakage and
cushioning the blades.
Side seals and blade stops manufactured from 1.5mm thick 316L St/St
Controls
Fully adjustable weight assembly or spring assembly for adjustment of level of pressurisation.
Indication
Dampers can also be provided with high visibility indication beacons and, where required, with remote position indication (On/Off or continuous/analog)
Nameplate
316L stainless steel nameplate containing agreed information is attached to the damper casing or linkage enclosure.
Hazardous Area
Our dampers are also available in hazardous area execution (ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 2).
